How Soon After Starting A Blog Can I Insert Ads?

Bloggers ask what the benefits are of incorporating ad campaigns into their blog at the beginning, or after they build a readership base.
Did you know people are making a living from the advertisements on their blogs? I know, I was shocked too. This knowledge, once a prized bit of secret grail shared only by techy nerds, is fast spreading to every Mom and Pop out there. Pretty soon your grandma will be earning her retirement checks from the Betty Crocker advertisements on her how-to-make-fudge blog.
Almost everyone has a blog now, whether it is professional or personal. If you are just starting a blog it is important for you to make decisions about advertising now. If this is the first time you have considered advertising on your blog, don't worry. It is easy as pie to set up.
There are two schools of thought on when to place ads in your blog:
1. Go for ad placement immediately after starting a blog.
This way you are earning income from the ads right away. No matter how small your readership is those little pennies ad up. Also, if you originally design your blog to include space for ads, you won't have to redesign your blog later. So you are potentially saving hours of design work down the road. By beginning your blog with ads, you have time to experiment with the placement of those ads to see what positioning is most profitable. If you choose to experiment with ad placement after your readership base is large, they may complain about the erratic format.
The consequence of starting a blog with ads is that some readers might be turned off. There is a large group of readers who, when faced with a new blog with several advertisements, will swiftly turn away. If you choose to begin your blog with ads be careful that the choice of ads and their placement on your site is classy. Start slowly.
2. Wait until you establish a large readership before you insert ads.
This may be the option for you if you are starting several experimental blogs, and want to wait to see which one will be most popular with readers. You might start five blogs and find that only one is successful in bringing in a readership substantial enough to earn you dollars instead of micro-pennies. In this case, you could save time by not building blogs with ads from the start, since they might not ever become very profitable. However, there are possible consequences to surprising your reader base with a sudden ad campaign. They may revolt and take their reading eyes elsewhere, to other, ad-free blogs. If readers have been enjoying your ad-free blog for a year, and suddenly ads confront them at every turn, they may choose to ditch you, but probably not. Most expert bloggers have ads on their blogs, and their thousands of readers accept them. There is another consequence to building in ads after you create your blog, which I mentioned earlier: The time consuming necessity of redesigning your blog to fit in ad space.
To answer the original question of this article, you can certainly use advertisements right when starting your blog. However, you will want to weigh the pros and cons of waiting, and this all depends on the potential of your blog.
